Outside Worker Competency

QUALITY

SOD

Further complicating the issue are
events not controlled by facility staff
that arrive in our buildings hoping to
attach or erect equipment above the
ground. Ensuring that these individuals
are properly accredited to conduct the
work is an owner's responsibility under
the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Considering outside expertise that are
properly trained in such work should be
given. For example, the International
Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees
(IATSE), Moving Picture Technicians,
Artists and Allied Crafts of the United
States, its Territories and Canada was
founded in 1893 and provides support to establish, among other things,
working conditions for their members. The Canadian Department supports the  20,000 Canadian members
in 40 Locals. The IATSE Education and
Training Department seeks to ensure
that workers are the safest, most skilled
labour force in the entertainment industry. See: www.iatse.net/about-iatse

Beyond special events, facility management must further consider the curServing Ontario and Surrounding Areas

FOR THE PERFECT FIELD

Conclusion
Safely working at heights can no longer
be a blind relationship between employer
and worker. There should be an expectation that the MOL will have a zero tolerance for all workplace parties who are
found to be working unsafely at height.
The ORFA encourages its members to
move forward accordingly.
