Ontario Pipeline - Summer 2015 - (Page 9)

OWWEA PRESIDENT'S REPORT OWWEA: Conference Recap G reetings fellow Water Professionals, You may be reading this edition of Ontario Pipeline whilst basking in the sunshine on one of Ontario's beautiful beaches or on a relaxing camping expedition in Algonquin Park. Perhaps you are enjoying one of hundreds of community festivals that happen in this great province on a weekly basis. Or maybe you are dreaming of those things and ultimately working hard at your job within this industry to ensure the mandate of safe drinking water is achieved. Wherever this finds you, I wish you all well this summer! The Annual Conference & Tradeshow has come and gone and, from the Equipment Association's perspective, the event was a smashing success. Speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors, the amount of effort that is invested by all of the associations and committees of the conference is truly appreciated and the teamwork that is required to pull off a successful event year after year is phenomenal. It was exciting to see the activity on the tradeshow floor at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel this year. The tradeshow is the marquee event on our calendar so the anticipation runs high with a slow build in the planning stage to a full bore race to the finish in the late winter. The annual tradeshow is special. The camaraderie between vendors and delegates at Ontario's Water Conference & Tradeshow is so great and measurable by comparison to many other similar events that the suppliers attend every year. This is evidenced by the volume of people walking the tradeshow floor throughout the event, the participation of attendees in networking events like the EA Casino Night, and the overall level of interaction between industry professionals. A few of the highlights that come to mind when recapping the conference include: * Our first edition of the New Technology Showcase on the tradeshow floor; * A great turnout for our "Pirates of the Harbour" themed Casino Night, with a special acknowledgement for our AWWA representative Michael Simpson who went above and beyond with his costume for the evening; * A nice, sunny cap to the week at our annual Charity Golf Tournament that raised $7,800.00 for Water For People. Now we turn our attention and focus to 2016 in the City of Roses, Windsor. Our goal is to work hard with our conference partners OWWA and OMWA to provide the best possible event for the delegates and vendors. It is always exciting (if not a little daunting) to flip the page on the previous conference and see how we can improve for the next one. Have a great summer! MATTHEW NICOLAK OWWEA PRESIDENT THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE & TRADESHOW HAS COME AND GONE AND, FROM THE EQUIPMENT ASSOCIATION'S PERSPECTIVE, THE EVENT WAS A SMASHING SUCCESS.
