IPAA Access - Summer 2016 - (Page 24)
February 29 - March 2, 2016
In March, about 75 IPAA members convened in Washington, D.C. to attend our annual Congressional Call-Up, where we participated in
120 meetings on Capitol Hill with U.S. Senate and House members. This is our opportunity, each year, to educate policymakers about the
importance of America's independent oil and natural gas producers and the challenges we are currently facing. While many members
of Congress and their staffs understand the importance our industry, it is essential to continue the education process. Among our
most important messages to lawmakers: our industry remains vital to America's future. More can be done in Washington to ensure the
continued growth of this American-made industry, one that is widely credited with helping our nation crawl out of a lengthy recession
and providing the U.S. with a reliable economic foundation. We asked Congress for additional oversight of federal agencies, advocated
for the need to maintain key tax provisions that are common for U.S. businesses and critical to our industry's success, and explained
that additional federal regulations - on hydraulic fracturing, endangered species, methane, and more - will be burdensome to our
business and could hinder America's access to affordable and reliable energy supply. ●
