Natural Gas in Outdoor Living
By Monticello Homes

I

n the last 10 years, more and more
people are building outdoor living
areas. In fact, a homes.com article
recently listed it as the number one
trend they are seeing people ask for.
As a locally-recognized builder year
over year, Monticello Homes has
seen scores of families look to us for
creating a beautiful backyard oasis.
Over the years, this feature has gone
from a custom-build only, to being
incorporated into many homes that are
built in master-planned communities.
On average, we see almost 35 percent of
our homes being built now include our
building this out. All of our homes are
plumbed for this, as many people plan
on adding this later when not done at
the time of construction. What's amazing
is how inexpensive this feature is to add

to any home, even after the build has
taken place. This is why you have also
seen an influx of families adding this
feature to their existing home. Want
to add more value to your home?
Most experts will agree that investing
into your kitchen will generally net
you a return anywhere between
70-80 percent of your investment. A
recent MSN expert suggested that an
outdoor kitchen would bring in the
same investment amount if not more.
Some have even found that it can add
more! Some experts in the industry
find that an outdoor kitchen can bring
in anywhere between 80-100 percent
return on investment (ROI) on your
outdoor kitchen renovations.
We find the two most popular
appliances being asked for are outdoor

cooking and an outdoor sitting area
with a fireplace or some type of
heating implement. Most are looking
for something to match the exterior
of the home. In South Texas, we see
stone and brick material as the most
popular. Natural gas cooking is also
the most popular when it comes to
outdoor cooking. Even those looking
to use charcoal or wood still ask for the
natural gas implement to be included.
Ease and speed are what most are
looking for. Others are going for a
modern look to offset when doing an
upgrade from an older home. If you
look online, YouTube is full of DIY-ers
who are building cement fire pits,
fire centerpieces and even complete
outdoor living rooms to accommodate
their lifestyle.
