existence to allow us to successfully
continue in our future endeavors with
minimal disruption.  Strategically, we
also identify critical positions within
the company that provide direction for
the company.  Within these positions
we identify candidates who can fill the
position on an interim basis should
the need arise.  In addition, we identify
candidates based on a level of readiness.
These candidates' levels of readiness are
identified as short-term or long-term.
Then job assignments and training are
identified to assist in preparation for
future growth.

What is your system's relationship
with customers? How important is
customer service?
Exceptional customer service
is second only to community and
employee safety at Southeast Gas.
In a recent survey of all Southeast
Gas employees, most respondents
included customer service as a primary
responsibility within their position,
even if they were not employed in a
customer service role. In recent years, we
made significant investments in online
technology to better serve our growing
customer base of millennials. Southeast
Gas has an integrated customer service
philosophy that allows customers to visit
our offices to make service requests or
pay their bills or they can call us to speak
directly with a representative or opt
to use our automated phone payment
system. Many of our customers pay their
bills with a credit card each month, and
we have implemented online billing and
payment options that allow customers to
easily do their business with Southeast
Gas on their terms and in a timeframe
that is convenient for them.

In the field, we continue to provide
in-house services like meter-reading, line
construction, installation and day-today service. By continuing to offer these
services with our own employees, we
have hundreds of touch points with our
customers each month, allowing us to hear
customer feedback and adjust our service
to best fit the needs of every customer.
Our overall customer service goals
at Southeast Gas are to optimize our
personnel, our technology and our market
intelligence to best serve our customers
and our communities in Southeast
Alabama.
What federal advocacy issues most
impact your utility on a frequent basis?
Southeast Gas is most concerned
about Environmental Protection Agency
and Department of Energy regulations
that deter the direct-use of natural gas
in homes and businesses. We are heavily
involved in shifting opinions from the
embedded idea that the efficiency of
appliances is measured at the site of the
appliance and does not take into account
the full-fuel-cycle use from the source.
