also charting their own course.
California and New York in particular
look to move aggressively toward
de-carbonization, while individual
cities consider measures such
as banning natural gas at some
future date.
Within this public policy
maelstrom, there is an ongoing need
for objective analytical information,
understanding of the costs to
consumers and society for different
carbon abatement measures, and the
potential unintended consequences
of "re-engineering" our energy future
by pre-picking winners and losers. The
ability to have "reasoned" discussions
on a topic that can be emotionally
charged remains rather elusive.
In this context, APGA will be
undertaking a new strategic planning
initiative in 2017. This will include a
1:10 AM
series of efforts to engage with APGA
member companies for their input
along with interaction and input from
external stakeholders. Through this
process, APGA will seek to identify
and prioritize key critical challenges
and issues for the organization to
help its members through the 20182020 time period - with an emphasis
on solutions.
What lies ahead? We undoubtedly
will continue to live in "interesting
times" in terms of U.S. energy and
environmental policy. There is great
uncertainty and multiple future
pathways that could unfold for the
industry. There is a need for planning
that will carry the day under multiple
scenarios and future uncertainty.
More so, there is a need for active
participation by the gas industry to
help inform the policymaking process
7:05 PM
and, ideally, helping craft a preferred
future pathway that balances
consumer, energy, and environmental
considerations. Your input to
APGA is a key part of this strategic
planning process.
APGA's Strategic Planning Session
will be held in coordination with the
Fall Board and Committee meetings
this October 29-November 1 in Key
Largo, Fla. For more information,
