Grigiškes will install a new tissue machine in Lithuania. Ilim’s new paper machine, built as part of the Big Koryazhma investment project, made paper for the first time in March. Resolute Forest Products will idle a newsprint machine at its Calhoun mill in Tennessee. RockTenn will lay off 119 workers and management at its Burlington corrugated container plant. SCA and Sappi Fine Paper Europe have formed a joint venture in the field of 6 Paper360º MAY/JUNE 2013 wood sourcing in Germany that will be called proNARO GmbH. Södra will divest the Tofte chemical pulp mill in Norway. ST Tissue started up its converted recycled tissue machine at the former International Paper uncoated freesheet paper mill in Franklin, Va. Tembec will sell its Skookumchuck, B.C. NBSK pulp mill to Paper Excellence for $89 million. The Newark Group completed a $186 million refi nancing transaction. In addition, all paperboard mills of the group have been granted FSC certification. UPM has received the Sustainability Award 2013 for Breakthrough Innovation in Technology in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Wausau Paper has signed a non-binding Letter of Intent to sell its specialty paper business to a new company (NewCo) to be formed and controlled by investment funds sponsored by KPS Capital Partners L.P. Wausau had earlier closed their technical specialty paper mill in Brainerd, Minnesota. SUPPLIERS ABB will upgrade the paper quality control system of LWC4 at the SCA Ortviken paper mill in Sweden. Andritz: • Has rebuilt PM2’s dryer section at Smurfit Kappa’s Hoya mill, Germany. • Has started up the rebuilt board machine at A. Merati & C. Cartiera di Laveno, Italy. • Will supply a High Energy Recovery Boiler and further environmental technologies for Mondi mills in Slovakia, Sweden, and the Czech Republic. • Delivered the PrimeDry Steel Yankee to the Zellstoff Pöls AG mill in Austria. Honeywell opened its new regional Automation College in Hanoi, Vietnam. Metso: • Will convert Blue Paper’s LWC machine in Strasbourg, France, to packaging grades. • Started up the complete containerboard production line B9 at Amcor Packaging’s Botany mill in Sydney, Australia. • Will supply Hyogo Pulp Industries with a pulp drying line for its mill in Tanigawa, Japan. • Opened a new automation service center in Ratchaburi, Thailand. • Will supply biomass power plant to Bioenergeticheskaya Kompaniya, Russia. • Has launched CoteCondor, a new polyurethane roll cover for blade coater backing rolls. • Started up Clearwater Paper’s Advantage THRU-AIR (TAD) tissue machine in Shelby, North Carolina. • Will provide two complete tissue production lines for the Turkish Hayat Kimya A.S. at the company’s new mill sites near the city of Alabuga, Tatarstan, in Russia, and in the city of Mersin in southern Turkey. • Inaugurated the world’s largest biomass gasification plant inaugurated in Vaasa, Finland. • Will supply a complete tissue production line for Syktyvkar Tissue Group in Semibratovo, Russia. Tscotec started up 10 tissue machines over a three month period, in three different countries. Voith: • Has started up the new TM7 tissue line at Productos Familia SCA’s Cajica, Columbia, mill. • Launched the NanoPro roll cover for calenders. • Now offers complete pulp drying machines, from headbox to the cross cutter and bale packing. Wrapmation launched its first Android app to provide access to its TRAQ Manager roll tracking system on all Android-running tablets and phones. Xerium Technologies: • Won Cascades 2012 Sustainable Supplier Award. • Announced full commercial availability of SMART® 5.0 Technology • Announced a 350 ton global press felt production. PEOPLE Stephen Dunmead has joined SchweitzerMauduit International as COO. Yvon Pelletier has been named president of Fortress Paper’s dissolving pulp business, Mario Plourde will succeed Alain Lemaire as CEO of Cascades, effective May 9.
