Held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, the conference set attendance records, celebrated TAPPI's 100th anniversary and attracted a record number of attendees from around the world. Here are just a few highlights. This year's executive panel included James Hannon, president and CEO of Georgia-Pacific; David Scheible, chairman and CEO of Graphic Packaging; Steven Voorhees, CEO of RockTenn; and John Panichella, CEO and president of Solenis. The venerable Couch Pit University inducted eight new members and a host more turned out for the ceremony and dinner. On the Sunday before PaperCon, eight individuals were named TAPPI fellows, an honorary title bestowed upon just a small number of members for extraordinary technical or service contributions. Chris Luettgen, TAPPI chair (left) and Larry N. Montague, TAPPI president and CEO, lead the toast at TAPPI's 100th anniversary celebration. 20 Paper360ยบ MAY/JUNE 2015 James Hannan, president and CEO of Georgia-Pacific, receives PIMA's Executive of the Year award. More than 150 exhibitors took advantage of an active show floor (shown here just before the exhibition opened.) To commemorate the centennial occasion, TAPPI published a 100-year book that tracks the association, as well as pulp and paper innovations, from 1915 when TAPPI was founded. At 15 years of age, Ameya D. Chavda, a 9th grader from The Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas, is possibly the youngest poster presenter at a TAPPI event. Chavda presented research conducted under the supervision of Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar and Dr. Vinitkumar Singh at The Texas Tech University, Lubbock Texas. More than 2,500 people attended PaperCon, topping last year's attendance by a wide margin. Here the audience listens to the motivational group, Afterburner, at the opening session. Many international visitors helped celebrate the occasion, including this large group from Sweden. About 1,000 people attended TAPPI's blacktie-optional gala to celebrate the association's 100th anniversary. Larry N. Montague, TAPPI president and CEO, congratulates actors who helped bring to life the history of TAPPI during the association's centennial celebration.
