intouch | ASPI neWS ASPI Recognizes Industry Leaders at Spring Meeting ASPI members persevered through February snowstorms and cancelled flights to help recognize industry leaders during ASPI's 2015 spring meeting in Naples, Florida. Mark Watkins, now retired after serving as senior vice president for MeadWestvaco, received the ASPI Special Recognition Award for championing the ASPI Customer Alignment Initiative and helping secure MeadWestvaco as the first customer host in 2008. "We were always looking for ways to work better with suppliers," noted Watkins during this acceptance speech in which he encouraged the supplier community to "protect industry institutions/associations like ASPI and research institutes like the Renewable Bioproducts Institute at Georgia Tech." He further encouraged suppliers to "drive innovation - as ASPI members and as individuals - for the continued competitiveness of the industry." Nebel, president, KapStone Kraft Paper Corporation, received the ASPI 2015 Customer Executive of the Year Award for leading remarkable achievements at his company, including higher sales and EBIDTA, and an improved safety record. Nebel spoke about KapStone's principles and how they are helping drive the company's success. Tony Hobson, vice president and general manager of Graphic Packaging's West Monroe, Louisiana, Mill, received the ASPI 2015 Excellence in Leadership Award for his accomplishments. He shared information about the West Monroe mill, recent production results and how they changed the mill culture. ASPI Announces Board of Directors Class of 2018 During its spring meeting, ASPI welcomed John Fox, president of Voith Paper North America, to its board of directors. In addition, three past directors return to the board as part of the Class of 2018, including: Carl Luhrmann, Andritz; David Withers, Coldwater Group; and Ray Edmondson, Yates. The Association of Suppliers to the Paper Industry (APSI) is the only association solely focused on providing membership benefits to companies supplying the global pulp and paper industry.
