The highly efficient and effective oil, grease and water resistance additive is also compliant with the recommendations of the German BfR XXXVI for use as a surface refining and coating agent in paper and board intended for food contact applications. The newly launched Cartaguard® KST liquid is based on a cationic C6 fluoropolymer which excels at providing a strong and long-lasting barrier to grease and water. Its performance properties and environmental profile make it particularly suitable for use in both size press and wet end applications to produce fast food boxes and wrappers, soup cube boxes, butter wrap and oil bottle labels. It is also suitable for use in production of molded pulp plates, cups, etc., and in pet food packaging. Cartaguard® KST is approved by the US Federal Food and Drug Administration under 21 CFR 176.170 for use as a grease resistance treatment employed prior to, or after sheet formation for paper and paperboard. Andritz has successfully started up the PM18 tissue machine for the Hengan Group, one of the leading Chinese manufacturers of hygiene and sanitary products. The PrimeLineST W8 tissue machine, installed in the Changde mill, is the 11th tissue machine Andritz has supplied to the Hengan Group. It has a design speed of 2,000 m/min and a width of 5.6 m. This machine, as well as PM17, which was also delivered by Andritz and started up in September 2014, are both equipped with an 18-foot steel Yankee dryer combined with a steam hood to minimize drying energy costs. Doubletree purifies groundwater and recycles wastewater with reverse osmosis for use in its paper products processes. Global Packaging will expand its Richmond County, N.C., manufacturing plant, hiring 33 new workers and investing more than $13 million in the facility over the next five years. Hokuetsu Kishu Paper, Japan's fifth largest paper maker, is planning to acquire Canadian pulp producer Alberta-Pacfic Forest Industries from current owners, Mitsubishi Corp. and Oji Holdings, according to a story in the Nikkei Asian Review. Resolute Forest Products will permanently close PM 9 at its mill in Alma, Que. Sappi will build a pilot-scale plant for low-cost Cellulose NanoFibrils (nanocellulose) production at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Sittard-Geleen in the Netherlands. It will be operational within nine months. SCA inaugurated its first manufacturing facility for tissue and personal care products in India. Smurfit Kappa Benelux, a subsidiary of Smurfit Kappa, will purchase the European and Mexican operations of Hexacomb, a subsidiary of Packaging Corporation of America. UPM has reduced work-related accidents by 70 percent in three years. WEPA International GmbH, Germany, has acquired 100 percent ownership of Lucart s.p.a.'s (Italy) Lucart France SAS operations.
