This well-known quotation by John F. Kennedy is simple, but powerful, and it is why the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) is proud to administer the National Honor Society (NHS), National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), and National Association of Student Councils (NASC) programs. The leadership skills that students gain through these programs elevate their learning and put them in the best possible position to reach for-and achieve-their postsecondary goals. As an adviser, you likely fulfill several roles at your school-as a teacher, faculty member, or even as an adviser for other student programs. But it is important to know that for many years, the work of NHS, NJHS, and NASC advisers nationwide has helped to develop some of our country's most exceptional leaders (Diane Sawyer was an Honor Society student and Sandra Day O'Connor was a member of her school's student council) and continues to do so today. That is why NASSP constantly strives to provide top-notch resources and services to support these programs. Most recently, NHS and NJHS announced national members-only opportunities to help its students enhance their college and career readiness, including face-to-face and virtual mentorship opportunities and college admission preparation assistance. And along with NHS and NJHS, NASC students and advisers have exclusive access to the online National Student Project Database, which has amassed more than 3,500 project ideas since it was created just one year ago. In addition, the LEAD conferences for NHS, NJHS, and NASC students have also grown exponentially over the last year by reaching their highest overall attendance numbers ever, providing more sessions and networking opportunities for the thousands of students who attend each year. All of these services seek to increase the value of membership in these national programs, and when they are combined with the dedication of the advisers working with these students every day, students are primed with all of the tools they need to become true leaders and achieve their goals.
