New leadership for Canadian
food manufacturers

MICHAEL Graydon is Chief Executive

Officer of Food & Consumer Products of
Canada (FCPC) - the national trade association representing Canada's food, beverage and consumer goods manufacturers.
Graydon has more than 15 years of experience leading organizations in a president and CEO role. He recently led the
British Columbia Lottery Corporation as
well as a casino development company.
He has experience with a retailer buying
group and in a variety of important industries, including advertising, grocery
retail, food service and food processing.
Graydon attended Western University
in London, Ontario and INSEAD, one of
the world's leading and largest graduate
business schools.
These roles have provided him with experience in many facets of the food and
consumer products industry, as well as
multi-stakeholder engagement and management with industry partners and key
consumer groups. Graydon offers a broad
Canadian perspective, having worked in
Nova Scotia, Ontario and, most recently,
British Columbia.

What makes a great leader?
The ability to observe and listen and the confidence to surround
yourself with talented people, empowering them to be creative
and innovative.
What's your favourite getaway locale?
I have promised my 8-year-old daughter I would show her
the world. We've managed Cancun, Havana, Paris, Cairo, San
Francisco and of course Disney World. Still lots to see which is
so exciting.
What's more important-education or experience?
You need an education as a foundation, but experience is critical
for success.
What's your favourite mobile device?
My iPhone is my go-to device. It provides me with everything
I need and assists me in keeping connected, informed and
entertained, anytime and anywhere.
Do you shop in-store or online?
I am an in-store guy. I like to see and touch the merchandise, I like
to encounter engaged sales people and I love to experience and
explore a great retail store.
Which do you prefer-fiction or non-fiction?
I enjoy fiction, a great murder mystery novel that keeps me engaged.
How would you describe your management style-hands-on or
hands-off?
I am a huge fan of empowerment and thus I am hands-off.
What's the next big game-changer in retail?
I am hoping the next big thing in retail is getting back to the basics
of good old fashioned customer service.
