CHANGE. It's one of the few constants within the retail industry. Consumer expectations and behaviours change. The Canadian and global markets fluctuate almost daily.
Methods of manufacturing and distribution change. And, like everything else, so, too,
does the payments landscape.
Canadian Retailer sat down with Rob Cameron, President of Chase Paymentech Canada, to discuss payments, the mobile payments tipping point and the factors that are driving merchant acceptance and consumer adoption of the still fledgling technology.

Canadian Retailer: The retail industry continues to evolve.
Today's consumer is demanding. Retailers work hard to
meet their demands. And, as a result, the payments industry is constantly innovating to satisfy the relationship between merchant and consumer. With respect to this evolution and innovation, what is your interpretation of the
current state of payments in Canada?

Rob Cameron: The measure of success of electronic payments in Canada is reflected in the amount of cash changing
hands today. What we're seeing is that we're moving toward
a cashless society. If you look at the metrics, cash is coming
out of the system at about 2.5 per cent year-over-year, according to Payments Canada. Driving this is a strong value
proposition from the perspective of both the merchant and
consumer. Consumers today have lots of choice with respect to payments options, whether 'pay now' [debit] or pay
later [credit]. From the merchant's perspective, there's ubi-
