They can be pretty informative once they start to know and understand," said
one participant, while another quipped about this younger generation, "it's
a bunch of impressive young people who are smarter than us."

RMEL MEMBERS ARE 'MAKING CHANGE AN OPPORTUNITY
TO RISE TO NEW HEIGHTS' TOGETHER
It was Clifton Taulbert's first RMEL Vital Issues Forum, and he was genuinely excited to see how much RMEL members share with each other.
There's a distinct level of trust among RMEL members. Competitiveness
doesn't really seem to exist. He noted that the Vital Issues Forum and all
RMEL roundtables are a win-win for continued success. "Communication
breeds more communication. No one has every answer, but every answer is in
the room," he said. "It's like there are pieces of the puzzle floating around in the
room, so you begin to get an idea in your head. And you ask a question that
you maybe never would have asked."
Questions, thoughts and ideas from the 2019 Vital Issues Forum have
already sparked new topics and speaker ideas at the Planning Session for the
2020 Spring Management Engineering and Operations Conference. That's

just the beginning of how thoughts from the group of industry leaders will
take on a life of their own and grow and combine with several more planning
sessions and roundtables to keep that discussion and collaboration going.
RMEL's Education Section Committees and Board of Directors rely on that
communication, as well as their company experiences to plan 25 relevant
and timely education and training events each year.
Just some of the top priorities you'll see in RMEL's 2020 lineup of events
and topics include:
■ Building an electric vehicle infrastructure to meet future demand
■ Employing new asset management and aging infrastructure tactics
■ Developing more wildfire mitigation strategies
■ Dealing with the impact of changing markets in the west
■ And, finally, making electricity simpler for customers.
This industry is indeed at a strategic inflection point, and John Doggett
believes in the electric energy workforce to take these changes and turn
them into meaningful opportunity. Once again, in his words: "We're going
to figure out what's going on, and we're going to find it and we're going to
fix it."
