28 The Pros and Cons of Expectations

Because of the generosity of TXAPA's
members and partners during the live
and silent auction TXAPA was able to
award 16 full scholarships and (2) special
circumstances scholarships for a total of 18.
A record $85,000 in scholarships has been
awarded to students either working for
member companies or majoring in studies
related to the construction industry.
BY KAREN PAGITT
With the addition of funding - and the
new processes the department has, and is
continuing to, put in place - we are certain
we can deliver on the expectations of the
citizens of Texas.
BY RANDY C. HOPMANN, P.E.

The durability of the pavement on this
y-shaped branch that Interstate 10 and
Interstate 35 make west of downtown,
and along several additional miles
of each of interstate, is the product of
forward-thinking decisions in the 1980s
to use a specially designed asphalt mix
instead of concrete during the construction
of the deck's original road surface.
BY CHRISTOPHER CURRY
All leaders could repeat the same statements
in the same way and expect it to be heard
and listened to. Mottos do work, but do
they have any weight to them.
