TFWA World Exhibition Show preview Show time Looking ahead to one of the industry’s most important events, the Tax Free World Exhibition in Cannes, France FWA, the organizers of the Tax Free World Exhibition in Cannes, France are hoping to return to pre-crisis attendance levels for the 26th edition of the event, which runs from October 17-22. According to TFWA, the number of pre-registered visitors was ahead of last year at +8%, although still falling short of 2008 figures. As of press time, there were a total of 458 exhibitors all categories combined signed up for the show, a slight decrease on last year’s final tally of 463. In the first week of October, the number of beauty exhibitor numbers stood at 128. Some 56 exhibitors will be new to the global travel-retail event this year, including 18 companies in the fragrance and cosmetics area (see box), among them Nivea, Ahava Dead Sea Laboratories, Christian Breton, Terre d’Oc and VAG. A new area at the show has been created for Parfums Christian Dior, located on level 3 of the Marine Croisette Village. The October 17 opening conference keynote address will be given by L’Oréal ceo Jean-Paul Agon. He will kick off the show by talking about how the travel-retail industry should re-invent itself (see box). The exhibition will also hold three workshops over two days, including a focus on Asian consumers and what lies ahead for the low-cost carrier business and its impact on the travel retail industry. Following TFWA president Erik Juul-Mortensen’s annual address on the state of the travel-retail and duty-free market, keynote speaker L’Oréal ceo Jean-Paul Agon will tackle the issue of how the industry “can and should re-invent itself”. His talk will be followed by a speech by Havas Media UK chairman Alan Watson, who will explore consumer perception of businesses and brands through their sustainability strategies and their impact on purchasing decisions. Brand futurist Martin Lindstrom will close the conference with a presentation of his ‘neuromarketing’ survey on how consumers relate to brands with a specific focus on the travel-retail channel. • Airline Workshop: Low Cost, High Potential?
