Launches Fragrance BPI (Shiseido) is launching a major new women’s fragrance with a youthful appeal for its Issey Miyake brand. The new fragrance, called Pleats Please, is inspired by the Japanese designer’s fashion collection by the same name. “Our ambition with Pleats Please is to establish a second franchise alongside L’Eau d’Issey. The L’Eau d’Issey line is now 20 years old so we need to recruit new consumers,” BPI chairman Rémy Gomez tells BW Confidential. The floral juice, by Givaudan perfumer Aurélien Guichard, features a top note of nashi fruit, a heart of fresh peony and sweet pea and a base of cedar, patchouli, vanilla and white musk. Issey Miyake represents nearly 40% of BPI sales. Pleats Please is the brand’s fourth women’s fragrance in 22 years. Launch: July (France, Spain, Switzerland, Asia); 2013 (Japan, Italy, Germany) Prices: 30ml EdT - €45; 50ml EdT - €62; 100ml EdT - €92 L’Oréal Luxe is to come out with a major new women’s fragrance for the Yves Saint Laurent brand this fall. Called Manifesto, the fragrance is described as a woody floriental, and centers on the jasmine flower. The bottle is intended to reflect the curves of a woman with a tapered waist featuring ameythst colored multi-faceted glass; the bottle also features a gold-colored top. The ad campaign for Manifesto will feature American actress Jessica Chastain. Launch: September Prices: 30ml EdP - €54; 50ml EdP - €77; 90ml EdP - €101 French brand Maison Francis Kurkdjian is introducing its third fragrance duo this month. Called Amyris, the scents, one for women and the other for men, are based on the amyris tree that is native to Jamaica and produces the fragrant elemi balsam. Both fragrances features notes of amyris and iris. The brand is revamping its packaging in 2013, with women’s fragrances featuring a gold-colored cap, while those for men will be topped with a zinc cap. Launch: September Prices: Amyris Femme 70ml EdP - €115; Amyris Homme 70ml EdT - €105 French brand Diptyque is to launch a new fragrance called Volutes this fall, which will also include its first EdP. The line, which comprises an EdT and an EdP, is described as a honeyed tobacco scent with notes of pink pepper, iris, tobacco and myrrh. A change to the bottle has also been made for the EdP version, with dark glass (the EdT’s bottle is transparent), a black label and black outer packaging. In recent years Diptyque, which has been better known for its home scents and candles, has focused on building its fragrance business. “We have been looking to better balance home scents and fragrance, and fragrance has already become an important part of the business,” Diptyque managing director Fabienne Mauny told BW Confidential. The brand is also expanding its international presence, especially in the US and is putting greater emphasis on Asia.
