Afterwards, BJ and all the captains know
that this was the attempt that had
to succeed. For a jump like this one with
a double objective, the energy,
concentration and group performance
are much harder to attain than for a
large jump with just one formation.
The strain of fatigue is starting to weigh
on the group. The last two jumps of the
event are not conclusive, even though
the last one is really very pretty.
Fly it Forward 2014 was a great and
beautiful human adventure, satisfying
for many, bittersweet for others.
The atmosphere was fabulous,
friendly and beautifully close-knit after
Diana's accident. The excellent presentation
and organization made for a very
successful event. In the end, only one
thing was missing: the record...
BJ concludes: "We didn't set a new
world record, but the event was so
significant by itself, that it deserves
recognition for all of its positive aspects.
As a huge international team,
we bonded well, dealt with a tragedy
in a heartfelt manner, and we performed
some of the most incredible big-way
dives ever made - and made all of these
jumps with a huge level of safety.
World records can never be guaranteed,
but Fly It Forward provided us with the
full opportunity to set a world record.
I hope no-one (or not too many) are only
focused on the record aspect.
If all we wanted was a world record,
we could have made a whacker dive with
150 and set a world record. World Team
has always tried to be much more
than just a world record attempt." ■
