cela donne une moyenne d'un saut toutes les 2.25
minutes. Dans l'avion, un moniteur le sécurise
au décollage, puis vérifie l'équipement
et s'occupe du largage.

Jay Stokes utilise 25 parachutes et il se fait aider
par un staff d'environ 150 personnes : bénévoles,
plieurs, pilotes, personnel de sécurité, etc.

La partie la plus difficile se situe vers 22
heures, au moment où une centaine de
sauts de nuit ont déjà été effectués,
Jay Stoke doit alors lutter contre la fatigue
et l'endormissement. Mais il n'a pas eu
à lutter cette année...
Jay Stokes a du mettre fin à son projet après
le 292ème saut, en début de soirée :
une tempête est arrivée sur le site d'Indianapolis, où il avait déjà subi un atterrissage
brutal. Après un examen de la situation
météorologique et de son évolution future,
aucune amélioration n'étant prévue dans le
créneau imparti, c'est sous une pluie
battante qu'il a officiellement annoncé qu'il
devait renoncer, pour cette fois.
Nul doute que nous entendrons encore
parler de Jay Stokes dans le futur !
Les précédent records Guinness du nombre
de sauts en 24 heures
31 mai 1995,
331 sauts à Raeford, Caroline du Nord.
27 novembre 1997,
384 sauts à Somerton Airport, Arizona.
13 novembre 1999,
476 sauts à Somerton Airport, Arizona.
11 novembre 2003,
534 sauts à Elsinore, Californie.
8 septembre 2006,
641 sauts à Greensburg, Indiana.
année, il établissait un nouveau record
avec 23 sauts de jour, puis 21 sauts de nuit.
En 1951, le Yougoslave Lutovac a effectué
132 sauts en un jour.
C'est en 1971 qu'apparaît le premier record
de type «24 heures» : l'Américain Steve
Hutton a réussi 210 sauts en 24 heures.
En 1972, le Canadien Jean-Pierre Blanchet
a battu le record avec 232 sauts
effectués du 9 au 10 septembre.
Il sautait à 700 mètres de hauteur avec un
parachute dorsal-ventral. Il était assisté
d'une équipe de 85 personnes.
Par 2 fois, il a dû actionner son parachute
de secours ventral..■

Les premiers records officieux du nombre
de sauts
De tout temps, des parachutistes ont tenté
des records de sauts en nombre.
Il s'agissait d'abord d'un nombre de sauts
consécutifs. Par exemple, en 1936, à Loos
Angeles, l'Américain H.S. Stark a sauté 21
fois en 9 heures 12 minutes, à la cadence
d'un saut toutes les 26 minutes.
En 1945, le Russe Amintiev a effectué
53 sauts dans la même journée. La même
