A mishmash of words! Why not combine titles and journaling, playing with words, fonts and colors? Let's discover together the ideas of the creative team! by Catherine Labeeu, Stéphanie Leschiera and Mylen Chartier Capitals ahead! An acrostic poem is a mind game, a form of riddle in which the solution is revealed line after line. There are famous, naive, flirtatious, modest ones... It's mental gymnastics that can be done by all, from a very early age. Here is one from Lewis Carroll's Through the LookingGlass. In the final chapter, in «A Boat, Beneath A Sunny Sky», we have a wonderful acrostic of the Alice's real name: Alice Pleasance Liddell. A boat, beneath a sunny sky Lingering onward dreamily In an evening of July Children three that nestle near, Eager eye and willing ear, Pleased a simple tale to hear Long has paled that sunny sky: Echoes fade and memories die: Autumn frosts have slain July. Still she haunts me, phantomwise, Alice moving under skies Never seen by waking eyes. Children yet, the tale to hear, Eager eye and willing ear, Lovingly shall nestle near. « Papillon (Butterfly) » by Catherine Labeeu Journaling and acrostic poems As a piece of trivia when Catherine was expecting her son Solal, she fondly called him "Small butterfly"; so it was natural for her to refer to it in the title. To play the card of originality, but also to pay tribute to a scrapbooking technique very fashionable at the time, she made her title as an acrostic. To recap, an acrostic is a poem whose first letter in each line forms a word when read vertically. 44 HISTOIRES DE PAGES - SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2013 In a Wonderland they lie, Dreaming as the days go by, Dreaming as the summers die: Ever drifting down the stream Lingering in the golden gleam Life, what is it but a dream? The letters of the word "butterfly" are scattered throughout the text and are highlighted thanks to stickers which contrast with the text, itself written by hand. The colors of the design in pastel shades, blend smoothly with baby Solal's photo. Finally, tissue paper, cloth embellishments and twine add substance and a delicate touch around the picture. Supplies: patterned paper (American Crafts, Webster's Pages, Crate Paper), alphabets (Kesi'Art, Atilolou), embellishments (American Crafts), badge (ColorConspiracy), fabric embellishments (Dame de Kit), dies (Sizzix), gesso, watercolor, twine
