Therefore, the torsion moment of blade rotation can be expressed as: Design mechanism for rotor blade icing/deicing Neo-Advent Technologies LLC is working on a non-thermal antiicing/de-icing mechanism for rotary wing aircraft. This mechanism (see Figure 3) automatically melts ice and runs the water off the blade. The electromagnetic transducer (3) receives the ultrasound wave and spreads the signal through the electrical cable (4) to the encoder (6). The clutch (5) switches on when the resonance frequency reaches 130 KHz, and the electromotor (7) rotates the blade at an angle of approximately 15° to pour off the water. This mechanism has a separate drive shaft with worm gears (figure 4), which can be installed and removed if necessary. Shear XZ piezo actuators (see figure 2) are used to solve this problem. A ceramic block transfers shear frequencies that correlate with interlaminar shear strength. Our concept of managing interlaminar and in-plane shear strength is described in reference [11,12]. An ultrasonic shear wave concept was developed on the basis of the correlation between the torsion moment of blade rotation and ultrasonic wave propagation for two layers: ice and aluminium. A mechanism was designed to melt ice and run the water off the rotor blades automatically.
