We learned that at our expense when we started out in this industry with our very European approach and culture. It is a highly responsive industry that is going to revolutionize the composite business. The key to cornering the market is to manufacture a very thin composite part with perfect surface finish – without reworking – using a high output process that is compatible with affordable materials. We’ve been preparing for our market entry for six years now, and hope to be the start-up that will have helped revolutionize this industry. What difference is there between two smartphones, X and Y? Apart from their interface and software, which are invisible from the exterior, the differences concern their weight, shape and aspect. These are the three criteria that really make the difference when someone picks up a terminal in a store. Consumers want a sexy, lightweight, “different” product. Composite materials can fulfil these expectations. Now we have to make them affordable. Composite materials need the electronics industry in order to find a significant growth driver, and the electronics industry

needs composite materials. It’s a natural, inevitable pairing.
JCM: What are the company’s priority areas, and why did you choose JEC Americas?

A.G. : For electronics and for production regions, Asia and specifically China and Taiwan are controlling the market, with other Finished part key players in Japan and Korea as well. That is why we’ve just opened a subsidiary in Taiwan. Things are different in terms of manufacturers and major brands. While Apple seems unbeatable for tablets, we’ve been paying a lot of attention to Google’s activity. With its Motorola buyout, Google could become a real challenger for Apple. Google isn’t just putting out products that are similar to Apple’s, and Motorola has already integrated composite materials into production of its Razr smartphone. Dell is still a benchmark for computers and Amazon is crushing the market

for eBooks, with serious ambitions for tablets. These five players are American, which explains why we will be at JEC Americas with a live demonstration focusing on electronics. Also, the American auto industry has really turned around since 2009 and more than ever needs to reduce the weight of its vehicles and differentiate itself. So the context is very favourable, which leads us to think that it is the right time to make an appearance and showcase our innovative technology. n
