A new trade association:
Composites Germany
The AVK Federation of Reinforced
Plastics, the CCeV carbon composites
industry association, the CFK-Valley
Stade carbon fiber cluster and the Composite Technology Forum of the VDMA
association of German plastics and rubber
machinery announced the foundation of a
joint umbrella organization: Composites
Germany.

The purpose of this umbrella organization
is to strengthen the German composites
industry and research, define joint positions
and identify common interests. The member organizations will remain separate and
independent. However, they will join forces
in areas of special relevance in Germany,
such as high performance composites and
automated production techniques.

The joint study will target downstream
businesses in automotive, energy

(natural gas and renewable energy), civil
engineering and infrastructure.
MRC and PTT anticipate up to 1 billion
USD sales of carbon fiber composites by
2020 in the region. The joint study will
include an evaluation of potential demands
for carbon fiber in Thailand and South East
Asia region together with the feasibility
study of new carbon fiber and its composites
plant in Thailand. At the beginning stage, the
joint collaboration will mainly focus on exploring automotive part and pressure vessel
demands. PTT, together with MRC believe
that low cost natural gas containers made
of extremely strong and light weight carbon
fiber composites are the key technological
breakthrough which will contribute to the
transportation sector, unfolding the possibility to maximize fuel efficiency globally. Both
companies expect to conclude the joint
study by the end of 2013.

NASA announces advanced composite
research partnership
The six selected companies from five U.S.
states to participate in the government-andindustry partnership to advance composite
materials research and certification are: Bell
Helicopter Textron of Fort Worth, GE Aviation of Cincinnati, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company of Palmdale, Northrop
Grumman Aerospace Systems of Redondo
Beach, Boeing Research & Technology of
Saint Louis and United Technologies Corporation and subsidiary Pratt & Whitney of
Hartford. The six firms were chosen for their
technical expertise, willingness and ability to
share in costs, certification experience with
government agencies, focused technology
areas and partnership histories. The first
task for the partners is to develop articles of
collaboration and establish how the alliance
will work and how companies may be added
in the future.

technicians, technologists and engineers,
is dedicated to provide customers with
technical innovation and cutting edge solutions through a collaborative approach.

Teijin strengthens operations in
Russia and CIS
The company announced that it
established Teijin Rus in Moscow to
strengthen the group's business operations in Russia and in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as part
of the group's strategy to expand businesses
in emerging economies. Having absorbed
the existing local office that was established
in 2006, the new company will handle
group-wide sales and conduct research to
identify demand and business opportunities in Russia and CIS, which are among
the priority markets in the Teijin Group's
medium- to long-term growth plan.
