JCM: What does your company
offer and for which markets?
What is your business model?

J.L.C.: We are a manufacturer

of ultra-high-performance
composite materials with a
high value-added business
model for the consumer
electronics, automotive and
sporting goods markets. Aonix
has generated revenues from
the beginning with its consulting services.
Now, we typically work in a
five-stage model:
1. We make prototypes for our
clients so they will be able to
fully validate the technology
on fully functional parts.
2. Then we design and build
mass manufacturing machines
based on their specific requirements.
3. We run a pre-production to
fully validate and optimize the
setup (so that we can adjust
the materials and machines as
needed).

4. We transfer the machines
to the client's factory or tier 1
or tier 2, and we provide the
necessary training.
5. We supply the materials -
typically millions of blanks - to
the client's factory, and provide
support and 24/7 machine
monitoring.
Our machines can manufacture parts up to 2 by 2 meters
in size.
JCM: Could you mention a few
business achievements Aonix is
proud of?

J.L.C.: All of our custom-

ers are in highly competitive markets. They see the
UltraMaterials Solution as a
competitive advantage. I can
talk generally about a large
project for a client in Asia last
year. From the purchase order
to getting the machine up and
running and the staff trained,
it took only 6 months (excluding time in transit). This was

a turnkey project including
materials development and
the design and assembly of
very large machines. The team
worked very hard to deliver on
time. Since then, this machine
has produced hundreds of
thousands of parts.
JCM: What kind of raw materials do you process?

J.L.C.: We have a portfolio

of three amorphous polymer
families with a Tg from 190°C
to 320°C, specifically developed for thermoplastic composites. We chose to use fully
amorphous polymers to avoid
nucleation and crystallinity
problems. We combine them
with most of the common
fibres in the market: carbon,
glass, aramid, boron or basalt.

goods, electronic goods, and automotive, aerospace
and energy products.
Aonix UltraMaterials™ offer market-making advantages over conventional epoxy-based composites:
high and ultra-high performance characteristics,
mass manufacturability and 100% recyclability. They
open up new opportunities for the use of composites
in non-traditional applications.

JCM: Solvay recently announced
taking an interest in your
company. What is the aim of
this share purchase? Could you
be integrated within Solvay in
the future?

J.L.C.: Solvay has one of the

best portfolios of performance
polymers in the industry. There
are very interesting synergies
between the two companies.
This polymer portfolio makes
our offer limitless in the overmoulding context.
With regards to your second
question, there is no specific
plan. Let's see what the future
