shape design and core material were provided by Foldcore GmbH. The open core
structure also allows easy and seamless
integration of cabling and lighting elements. The sandwich panels offer good
thermal insulation and are optionally
fitted with infrared heating elements.

The ceiling panels provide integrated ventilation
and lighting. The foam panel on the right is equipped with invisible infrared heating elements. The
frames feature fibre-fair integrated openings

braiding process without damaging the
surrounding fibres. Cabling or ducting
can be integrated without sacrificing
performance, making the most out of
fibre-fair design.

All components of the superstructure
were subjected to finite element analysis and optimized with respect to their
specific performance. Using a mix of advanced technologies available at IFB and
Silberform AG, test parts were built and
subjected to mechanical tests to verify
the FE results.

The results of the joint project show that
modern fibre-based concepts offer a lot
of potential for special vehicles in terms
of weight saving and performance gain.
In addition, consequent functional integration provides more space and higher
comfort for the user.
Especially in such a low-volume and
highly specialized segment as expedition vehicles, properly designed FRP
concepts together with a clever choice of
production technology do not only provide superior performance, but they can
also be produced at a reasonable price.
Last but not least, the freedom offered by
composite technologies allows engineering and design of vehicles that not only
work great, but also sure look the part. n
