Faurecia and Michelin formalize
their joint venture for hydrogen mobility
The companies have formalized the creation of Symbio,
a Faurecia Michelin hydrogen company, a joint venture
combining all their hydrogen fuel cell dedicated activities.
This joint venture
is tasked with developing, producing
and marketing hydrogen fuel cell
systems for light
vehicles, commercial
vehicles and trucks
as well as for other
areas of electromobility.
Michelin and Faurecia's complementarity makes it possible to
offer a complete range of hydrogen fuel cell systems covering all
types of mobility uses. Faurecia is contributing its technological
hydrogen mobility expertise and the results of R&D work
carried out with the CEA (the French Atomic Energy
Commission). Michelin, for its part, is contributing the knowhow of its subsidiary Symbio, an equipment manufacturer
supplying hydrogen fuel cell kits as well as a range of services
and design and production activities.
Michelin and Faurecia will initially invest €140 million in the
joint venture in order to accelerate the development of newgeneration fuel cells, launch mass production and increase
business in Europe, China and the United States. Symbio, a
Faurecia Michelin hydrogen company aims to capture 25%
market share and achieve a turnover of around 1.5 billion euros
by 2030.

Hydrogène de France announces its first plant
for mass production of high-powered fuel cells
Hydrogène de France (HDF) signs a technology transfer agreement
with Ballard Power Systems and launches its plant. It will
manufacture the most strategic brick of the future's major hydrogen
power generation infrastructures. Hydrogène de France (HDF)
becomes a French industrial company by launching its high-powered
fuel cell production plant in Bordeaux. This plant, with an annual
production capacity of 50 MW, will be one of the first in the world
to mass produce high-powered FCs (greater than 1 MW) using PEM
(Proton Exchange Membrane) technology. The industrialization and
standardization of these systems reduces their cost and improves their
reliability and maintenance.

Plastic Omnium has won a significant order from a German
manufacturer for the development of 350-bar hydrogen tanks
The contract signed for bus equipment
is one of the largest project in Europe
at this time for this type of vehicle. In
parallel to this, Plastic Omnium has just
obtained its first certification for a 700bar hydrogen storage tank designed to
equip passenger cars.
This contract and this first certification
demonstrate the recognition of Plastic Omnium's technological
know-how, developed in the field of high-pressure composite plastic
tanks over the last four years. They form a milestone in the group's
development in new energies, a strategy that has been reinforced
by the opening of two R&D centers, ∆-Deltatech in Brussels and
ω-Omegatech in Wuhan, China, where a pilot carbon filament
winding line has recently been inaugurated. In 2020, Plastic Omnium
will also install a dedicated production line of hydrogen tank sat its
Herentalsplant in Belgium, which currently produces fuel tanks.

Carbon and Lamborghini expand partnership
The companies have expanded their partnership and will now
digitally manufacture both the central and lateral dashboard air
vents for the Sián FKP 37, Lamborghini's first hybrid production car.
This new collaboration to produce 3D-printed air vents marks a
milestone in Lamborghini's partnership with Carbon and, more broadly,
the adoption of Carbon's Digital Manufacturing Platform to produce
parts by automakers. After experiencing the quality and efficiency of the
Carbon Digital Manufacturing Platform with the Urus, Lamborghini
recognized it could transform the way many of its parts are designed,
engineered, and manufactured-producing better parts, while also
accelerating product development. With the Sián air vents, Lamborghini
reduced its part lead time by 12 weeks by moving swiftly from design
to production directly on the Carbon Platform. Time-consuming and
costly tooling steps involved with traditional manufacturing were
eliminated completely. Additionally, Carbon EPX 82 material was
selected for the air vents given Lamborghini's high standards for all
car components. EPX 82 passed tests related to interiors flammability,
volatile organic compounds, thermal cycling and heat aging.

Airbus acquires Seattle-area's MTM Robotics
Airbus has acquired industrial automation company, MTM
Robotics, for an undisclosed sum. The move deepens Airbus'
commitment to expanding advanced robotics capabilities
within its manufacturing processes.
The acquisition is the latest
chapter in a ten-year-plus
relationship between the
companies, with multiple
MTM light automated
robotics systems currently in
use at Airbus manufacturing
facilities. While MTM will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary
of Airbus Americas, headquartered in Herndon, Virginia, it will
continue to serve other customers in the aerospace industry.
Since 2003, MTM has deployed more than 40 aerospace
manufacturing systems comprised of machines, tools, machine
software, enterprise software and support throughout the
United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
