European countries decide to establish joint standards for hyperloop systems

A trans-European ultra-high-speed transportation network is
closer to becoming a
reality, with the cooperation of TransPod,
Zeleros, Hardt and
HyperPoland, in
collaboration with the
European Committee
for Standardization
(CEN) and the
European Committee
for Electrotechnical
Standardization
(Cenelec).

About Hardt Hyperloop

Zeleros is developing a modular
high-speed transportation system
that minimizes the infrastructure
costs by integrating the main technologies into self-driving vehicle
pods. Partners include technology
companies (Altran), operators (Renfe, F. ValenciaPort) and research
scientists (Universitat Politècnica
de València, Ciemat). Zeleros has
the support of the Plug & Play Tech
Centre in Silicon Valley, the EIT Climate-KIC knowledge and innovation
community, and the main Spanish
transportation associations. Zeleros
is planning to create a European
hyperloop research centre in order
to demonstrate a high-speed system in 2021. In 2016, the Zeleros
founders won two awards from Elon
Musk's hyperloop competition.

Hardt's goal is a world where distance no longer matters. Founded in
the Netherlands in 2016, Hardt won
Elon Musk's SpaceX international hyperloop competition in 2017. Hardt
Hyperloop has initiated the European
Research Centre, which is scheduled
to open in 2022 for testing and learning purposes. The Centre will serve
all Hardt Hyperloop partners working
on hyperloop technology. Partners include InnoEnergy, Koolen Industries,
the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, the
Dutch railways and Deutsche Bahn,
along with BAM, Tata Steel and IHC.

About TransPod
TransPod's goal is to use innovation
to redefine commercial transportation between large cities in industrialized and developing countries. The
startup was founded in 2015 to develop and build the most advanced
hyperloop system to link populations, cities and companies through
an affordable ultra-high-speed
means of land transportation that is
also environment friendly. TransPod
is based in Toronto, Canada.

About Hyper Poland
Hyper Poland is the first European
company to develop a hyperloop
technology. A university team sponsored by the company has entered
the SpaceX hyperloop competition
twice. Hyper Poland also participated in an accelerator project with the
Polish postal service and did the
first feasibility studies on connecting
large Polish cities to the new Central
Communication Hub by hyperloop.

the Railway Research Institute. The
team is convinced that the hyperloop will change day-to-day living by
giving us more of what seems most
desirable these days: time.

and approaches, the JTC 20 will
help to facilitate the rollout of an
integrated network over the entire
continent.
An international hyperloop
initiative to ensure cross-border safety, connectivity and
compatibility
The proposal to create a joint
technical committee was the result of the pooled efforts of the
national standardization bodies of
Spain (UNE) and the Netherlands
(NEN). The JTC 20 will include
task forces that will focus on different hyperloop system components,
in particular the vehicle sub-assemblies, the infrastructure and tubes,
but also the overall system infrastructure and communication protocols. The initiating consortium of
hyperloop companies along with
representatives from the different
national standardizations bodies
and experts from a range of industries will participate in the task
forces to contribute their technical
expertise.
A network of hyperloop research
centres is in the process of being
created. The centres, which should
become operational over the next
few years in France, Poland, Spain
and the Netherlands, will serve
to conduct tests and validate the
technologies and standards that
emerge from the JTC 20. Once the
validations are completed, a legislative proposal containing recommendations will be submitted to
the European Parliament and the
Council of the European Union.
