Yachting makes the move to hydrogen
In September, Hynova Yachts attended the Ever Monaco
2020 exhibition, the essential meeting place for renewable
energies. There, they presented the first series model for a
hydrogen-fuelled boat and received the 'Showstopper' award
from the jury during the 2020 Monaco Solar & Energy Boat
Challenge.

Ever Exhibition held September 2020
in Monaco, where they unveiled this
innovation to the market.

This ecological innovation is safe and
sustainable for supplying green energy
to an electric engine.

The Hynova project emerged from the
will and perseverance of its founder,
Chloé Zaied, who's passionate about
the sea and personally involved in protecting the environment.
She was able to gather a group of partners from the biggest names in yachting
and innovation, like EODev, Exequiel
Cano Lanza for CLYD, Fabrice Pouille
from 10-6 DeSign, Syroco, and Toyota.
But beyond this innovation in marine
propulsion, Hynova Yachts' ambition
is to promote green hydrogen as a new
source of non-polluting energy.
Green hydrogen constitutes an effective
solution for storing renewable energies,
enabling the surplus production from
wind, solar or tidal stream energy to be
used reliably at any other time.

JEC Composites Magazine: : YCan you
tell us about your career path and
explain how you came up with the idea
for hydrogen-fuelled pleasure craft?

Chloé Zaied: I've been a profession-

al skipper for ten years, and have run a
family business for eight, taking people
on day trips into the Marseille coves. I
know just how lucky I am to work in
such a magnificent ecosystem, and am
aware that my work adds to pollution
in the national park. For several years
now, I've been looking for a way to
combine my profession-which is also
a passion-with growing concerns for
protecting the marine environment.

You don't have experience in building
series model ships, nor in hydrogen
power, I believe. How did you get
organized?

Invented by Chloé Zaied, the French
Hynova Yachts Founder and General
Manager is also a professional skipper.
The Hynova 40 tender is a concept
that's one of a kind, as it's the first pleasure craft to use the hydrogen stored
on board to sail without polluting.
EODev (the R&D subsidiary of Energy
Observer) designed the technology
for this boat equipped with REXH2
(Range Extender Hydrogen), a zero-emissions process that's silent and a
hybrid between hydrogen and electric.

suitable for a service pressure of 350
bars, and EC79-certified.
They also come with three EVE Systems
batteries for a total capacity of 120 kWh
in a technology that's been certified by
Bureau Veritas for marine applications.
