Harnessing the power of the tides
Submarine application design requires expertise
and provision for risks that can crop up between
phases of maintenance that are extremely costly,
and even more so when they must be performed
in a hostile environment. PE Composites has built
up significant experience in this field, thanks to a
partnership involving the English submarine fleet.
Their competence in controlling these risks has been
demonstrated through participation in the PLAT-O
project (PLATform for Offshore energy). In this
project, the company has developed composite nose
cones that adapt to the buoys and ensure structural
stability. Through its contributions to the selection of materials, coating and
design of this element, PE Composites is helping maximise the energy harnessed by the turbine, all while guaranteeing resistance to destructive forces of
nature like storms.

Increasing solar panel reliability
and reducing weight
The solar panel industry is undergoing a roller coaster evolution that has kicked many
players out the market, which struggled to
establish competitiveness at the global level.
Despite all this, solar energy remains quite
popular and benefits from a concentrated set
of innovations to improve existing solutions.
Armageddon Energy, a player still contending, has introduced the second version of its solar panel, the
SolarClover. Designed for rooftop installation, this model is
considerably lighter and more resilient due to its broad use of
composite materials. It combines a transparent polymer layer
that adheres to a thermoplastic backer developed by EconCore,
and utilises solutions that are the fruit of Dupont Materials' expertise in solar energy. Armageddon Energy has thus managed to
reduce the weight of each panel by 70-80%, for a stronger panel
requiring less maintenance.
