capacity will the Changshu
plant represent compared with the
Singapore plant?
Erwoan Pezron: Changshu
doesn't bring additional capacity
to the Singapore plant, it will produce
PA11 under powder form,
downstream of the Singapore
plant or any PA11 plant. Of
course, the new powders plant
may source some of its monomer
from the new Singapore plant.
The amount of investment for the
Singapore plant was €350 million.
With the Changshu plant, the announced
envelope is €450 million.
Does that mean that the investment
in the Changshu plant is
€100 million?
E.P.: The amount of investEstablished

E.P.: Recently in China, we have
seen strong growth in high performance
consumer appliances,
where our powder coatings enjoy
a strong market presence. The
growing middle class is an obvious
driver. The automotive and
truck market obviously continues
to be strong, driven also by strong
sustainability goals. OEMs want
to decarbonize not only their fuels
(in favor of electric vehicles),
but they also want to decarbonize
their materials of construction -
bio-based powder coatings represent
a win/win in terms of carbon
footprint and low VOC processing.
Also, we see strong growth in
additive manufacturing in Asia -
not just in China, but across the
entire continent. Arkema provides
a wide palette of 3D printing
solutions including bio-based
polyamide 11 for powder bed fusion
processes as well as a whole
portfolio of innovative UV curable
solutions sold under the
Sartomer brand.
In a recent release, Arkema said
that the last 14 years have seen
Asia Arkema's share of revenue
rise from 13% in 2006 to 31% in
2020. What about Arkema's revenue
in China?
E.P.: We do not split revenues
by country, but China is not far
from 50% of Asian sales, Asia representing
27% of Group sales in
2020 (31% includes Asia + rest of
the world)
What about Arkema's 2024 ambition
in China and Asia in terms of
revenue generated by bio-based
polyamide?
E.P.: We don't disclose specific
targets by country and product.
However, we expect our PA11
bio-based polyamide to grow very
strongly as this product boasts superior
properties and is 100% biobased
and recyclable, supporting
perfectly our customers' goal to
reduce their carbon footprint.
