MASS PRODUCTION WITH THERMOPLASTIC RTM AND PCM

Widespread application of composites depends on three main factors: increased productivity, improved recyclability and
lower specific costs through extended function integration.
HD Composite (HDC), Hungary, developed an automated T-RTM line for the production of PA6based
homogeneous structural composites with PA6 foam cores, metallic inserts and in-mould
coated, near-class-A surfaces. This programme won the JEC World Innovation Award 2019 in
the Automotive Process category. HDC already uses this unique technology to produce complex
sandwich structures for sports equipment in volumes over 10k pcs./year.
As part of another innovation programme running at HDC, mass production of automotive composite leaf
springs was developed based on the epoxy/glass fibre (EP/GF) prepreg compression moulding (PCM)

COMPLEX-GEOMETRY PULTRUDED CFRP PROFILES
As part of its first participation in JEC World as an exhibitor, K-Composites will showcase, alongside its capabilities, knowhow
and standard product range, a line of recently-developed pultruded CFRP profiles featuring complex cross sections
combined with the use of different fibres and resin systems.

The main fields of use include industrial applications such as robotics & automation, tissue converting, printing and packaging.

Sustainability and resource conservation are crucial challenges
and composites have a key role to play in this regard. To establish
composites on a broad scale, their cost and complexity need to be
reduced, while increasing production capability and sustainability.

The Smart Susceptor
tooling
production. When heated by
induction, the tooling surface
provides self-regulated heating.
This means that any spot on the
tooling surface reaches the shut-off
temperature and then holds while
other areas continue to heat. No
production of
customized multiaxial thermoplastic composites and produces tailormade
materials at significantly lower cost than established processes. By
substituting conventional materials, the technology not only improves cost
and efficiency, it also helps to significantly increase sustainability based on
recyclable or bio-based materials while reducing composites processing

temperature control on the tooling surface. Additionally, an air quench
system provides equally rapid cooling. Compressed air blows through
tiny openings directed at the backside of the Smart Susceptor. When
exiting the opening, the air becomes super-chilled to -100°F. Cycle
times are measured in minutes. Applications for this technology include
matched-metal, compression moulding and bladder forming tools.

INTEGRATED LOOP TECHNOLOGY FOR CONTINUOUS-FIBRE JOINTS
Integrated Loop Technology (ILT) is a process that combines a structural composite element such as a tube with a joining
component, a loop. ILT is used to join two composite parts or integrate a bushing in a hinging system. The result is a joint integral to the
structure produced with a continuous-fibre automated placement process. Examples of applications using this innovative process include a
novel bike frame, lightweight ladders and material handling robots.

EUROPE'S LARGEST THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITE LAMINATION STREET
From Q2 2022 onwards, Compoform B.V. and Dutch Composites will join forces and create Giant Leap Composites
(GLC). GLC will design and build a unique semi-automatic lamination line for all kinds of recyclable thermoplastic composites with
dimensions up to 12,000mm x 2850mm x 150mm. The total output will be between 1,500,000m2
