WATER-SOLUBLE CORES FOR
THERMOPLASTIC APPLICATIONS
The unique Cavuscore blocks/mandrels were developed for
high-temperature and high-pressure applications such as hot
pressing with thermoplastics composites (PEEK), HP-RTM or
injection moulding.

The
environmentally-friendly
and
odourless Cavuscore material offers
an extremely easy wash-out, even
with complex geometries and small
washout openings. The material is
also suitable for general moulding
and tooling applications where hightemperature, high-pressure resistance
and a low coefficient of expansion (CTE) are important.
Cavuscore can be used for prototypes as well as for mass
production and is reusable. Aero Consultants AG produces "readyto-use" water-soluble mandrels according to the customer's CAD
files for aerospace, automotive and other industries.

The Progano® lightweight
composite from Profol is an
advanced
fibre-reinforced
plastic made of continuous glass
fibres embedded in polypropylene.
It can be used in almost any
thermoplastic
application
to
replace aluminium and steel in
many components, but it especially
supports automotive manufacturers'
efforts to reduce weight, improve vehicle efficiency and, ultimately,
decrease global CO2 emissions. The Progano sheet has a low density
that makes it 30% lighter than aluminium, but still as resilient. It is as
strong as steel, and demonstrates more flexibility in crash tests. The
semi-finished sheet can be formed in many shapes using existing
thermal presses and injection moulding machines. Functional elements
such as threaded connections and inlays can be integrated directly into
the production process, saving significant labour and handling costs.
Progano is manufactured in a new, dedicated composites plant in
Greiz, Germany, with the capability of producing 20,000 metric tons
per year to support the demand for high-volume automotive parts. It is
available in sheet sizes up to 1.2 m x 2 m to give manufacturers more
options and flexibility when producing components.
Since Progano is lighter than aluminium and has similar strength as
steel, it gives automotive manufacturers another tool for reducing
weight and improving the efficiency of vehicles. Profol brings 30 years

STRAIN MEASUREMENT

The e-Moto is a new class of vehicle, a cross between an
e-bike and e-scooter. It does not currently exist in the world
and is the first of its kind. Designed by award-winning designer
Bill Stephens of StudioWest, the e-Moto is produced by
Arevo with its Manufacturing-as-a-Service infrastructure. This
collaboration demonstrates how new form factors come to life
quickly using the Arevo
DNA platform, which
replaces metal parts by
3D printing composite
parts
optimized
for
strength and weight.
Arevo DNA integrates
software, robotics, and material data so that designers can
explore numerous possibilities for parts while meeting structural
requirements.
The key differentiator compared to other platforms is that the
structural integrity of the part is ensured virtually before it ever
enters production. Arevo DNA therefore provides the freedom to
rapidly iterate and physically realize designs within days versus
waiting months for a prototype. The e-Moto design explores a
cantilevered unibody frame with a single-sided chainstay and fork,
showing off Arevo DNA's capability to utilize composite materials
to their maximum and create parts that are ready to use in the field.
Compared to products in the market that took years to create,
the design met all aesthetic and functional criteria in a matter of
weeks. As a result, the multidisciplinary team constructed this new
lightweight e-vehicle from carbon fibre in a fraction of the time it

CO-EXTRUDED PROFILE USING
STYLIGHT® STRUCTURALS

Rehau, a leading supplier of polymer-based solutions,
was looking for a lightweight, high-performance profile
for exterior applications that could be extruded. The
key characteristics required were high stiffness, high
flexural fatigue strength, high
dimensional stability, weather
and UV resistance.
The combination of StyLight
Structural S and Luran S 797S
helped Rehau find the bestsuited solution for the profile.
In this combination, the
StyLight tape is co-extruded
with Luran S 797S and
adhesion is provided through
the chemical compatibility
between
both
materials.
Combining these two materials allows for the extrusion of a thin,
rigid and fatigue-stable profile with excellent weather and UV
resistance.
