Active Living by Design's Walking Access to Parks Measure streets are walkable. Third, that the walk route service areas would be created using 100-meter buffers on both sides of the streets. FRMP Results Measure 1- Proximity to Parks According to the National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network (NEPHTN), 39 percent of people nationwide live within a half mile of a park boundary. FRMP also looked at data for the parks in its system and found that just over 15 percent of the county's population (82,893 people) lives within a half mile of a FRMP park. In an October 2016 blog, titled " Active Living by Design, " the following three ways to measure walking access to parks were proposed: Proximity: Percent of a jurisdiction's population living within a half mile of a park boundary. Proximity is necessary for walking access, but living near a park boundary does not mean you have a short walk to its entrance. Walking access: Measuring the percent of a jurisdiction's population with less than a halfmile walk route to a park entrance not only identifies park system gaps, but also shows who has a walk route to a park. Park connectivity: This measure of the proportion of people living within a half mile of the park boundary who have less than a halfmile walk route to a park entrance is useful for determining where new access points and shorter walk routes will make the biggest impact on increasing access to parks. It can also be used to coordinate reviews of new subdivisions and development projects that might be leveraged to improve park access. 1 2 3 Measure 2 - Walking Access to Parks Only 4 percent of the county's population lives within a halfmile walk route to the entrance of a FRMP park. Future efforts might include working with other city and county agencies to identify park entrances for all parks in the county to obtain a better understanding of walking access. Data from measures one and two allow FRMP to compare itself to other jurisdictions and to track progress over time. Measure 3 - Park Connectivity The percent of residents living within a half mile of a park boundary who also have a walk route under a half mile ranged from 0 percent for parks with no developed entrance to 78 percent for RiverScape MetroPark, which has multiple entrances VILLAGE OF OBETZ Columbus, OH Graphic 1: Buffers Using Existing Entrances SCORING SOLUTIONS FOR EVERY LEVEL OF PLAY DAKTRONICS.COM/RECSPORTS W W W.
