BATH AND SPA SECTION BY WANDA JANKOWSKI Planet-Saving in the Bath Eco-friendly Products Capitalize on New Technologies and Treatments G oing green in hospitality baths is a complicated matter, given the breadth of functions to be served, but the momentum to create ecofriendly spaces is increasing. “The trend of going green is being received as something that guests want and is also good for the earth,” says Jody Rosenberg, National Sales Manager, Sonia. “Many spas are getting involved in sustainability programs,” says Michael Zimber, President, Stone Forest. “Some spas are now powered 100 percent by wind energy, while others stand behind water-conserving fixtures and resource management.” The most obvious eco-issue in the bath is water conservation, and great strides have been made in developing usage guidelines and product technologies that address it. “In the bathroom, hotels are installing highefficiency products, which reduce water consumption by 20 percent from that mandated by the Energy Policy Act of 1992,” says Lenora Campos, Ph.D., Manager Publications, Toto USA, Inc. Toto USA’s recent introductions include a high efficiency toilet that uses only 1.28 gallons of water per flush.
