Toups *also Board of Directors Design-Build Project Completed in 18 Months The Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford, Virginia, is now the commonwealth’s largest regional jail, following the completion of a 432-bed addition that opened this fall. The $49-million project, which includes both medium- and maximum-security housing, is among the first to be completed under Virginia’s PublicPrivate Education Facilities and Infrastructure (PPEA) Act of 2002. The design-build team of PSADewberry and Balfour Beatty Construction completed the project for the Rappahannock Regional Jail Authority. A two-story, fourlevel housing pod was added and the existing structure renovated to increase storage, reconfigure visitation, add a new magistrate’s space, and improve intake areas. PSA-Dewberry also provided interior design and security technology services, including the addition of a video visitation system. Dewberry provided civil engineering, and Hankins & Anderson provided mechanical/ electrical and structural engineering. The complex has served the city of Fredericksburg as well as Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George counties since 1968. Authority representatives estimate that the expedited design-build schedule decreased the construction schedule by six to eight months.
