immediate occupancy of a new student apartment complex. The firm also designed a permanent booster pump station, including a pressure reducing station, which benefited the entire main campus. The Vincent Place Pumping Station and Redevelopment project also received the municipal and environmental engineering award. Dewberry designed the consolidation of three aging stormwater pumping stations, open drainage ditches, and wet wells into one robust facility at Vincent Place in Teterboro, New Jersey, greatly improving stormwater management in both the community and adjacent Teterboro Airport. Shown under construction, the Rainbow Lake dam, bridge, and spillway repairs were New Jersey Department of Transportation’s first contract advertised on a lump-sum basis. The Route 56 Rainbow Lake Dam Emergency Bridge Repairs project was presented with the transportation and structures award. Dewberry’s innovative approach to the design process allowed for engineering efforts to be accelerated for this reconstruction. See the March/April 2008 Dimensions. The most esteemed honor, the director’s Award, was presented to the ABB Expansion project in South Boston, Virginia. In nine-month’s time, Dewberry worked closely with ABB to design a facility that would enclose the company’s specialized and complex fabrication and testing equipment. One judge stated that “the ability to [work on] industrial projects takes unique skills.” Lastly, the Thurmont Regional Library in Thurmont, Maryland, was the recipient of the program’s judges’ award. A collaborative effort between the Town of Thurmont and Frederick County, PSA-Dewberry designed the library to incorporate the area’s history and natural environment. Nestled within the area’s wetland environment, the library provides the best orientation for energy savings, natural lighting into reading areas, and view of the wetlands. 2008 Awards for Excellence Jury: • B. While the Vincent Place Pumping Station and Redevelopment project started as a drainage study, Dewberry was able to bring the client full-service engineering and environmental services. PSA-Dewberry designed the Oklahoma Forensic Center’s therapeutic environment to appropriately provide counseling, evaluation, and other services for patients. 7
