Spotlight on the Staff
As my colleagues and I reach out to clients across the country, we’re seeing a lot of organizations struggle to figure out how to move forward in these financial times. Regulatory demands and increased problems associated with our aging infrastructure are not going away, but the revenue to pay for upgrades has decreased. In Georgia, where I’m based, the revenue concerns for water utilities are magnified by water wars and aggressive conservation initiatives. While in other areas, quite frankly, the water rates are so low that the utility is financially unsustainable and can’t adequately maintain the system without significant revenue increases. In challenging situations like this, I feel rejuvenated. As our clients try to balance these constraints and basically do more with less, they are taking a step back and trying to come up with a better way to plan for the future. My passion is centered on understanding our clients’ needs (technical, political, financial, and regulatory), and partnering with them to identify workable solutions for their community. I enjoy master planning, developing conceptual designs, and participating in outreach activities. I love getting involved in the communities where we work and becoming an advocate for our clients by letting their stakeholders know about the positive things being accomplished. We get involved through professional societies, community groups, school events, and stream clean-ups to name just a few. I recently joined Dewberry because I believe the company understands how to partner with clients in a trusting way; to be that long-term advocate for the clients we serve. As you’ll read on page 4, we are actively engaging with clients to balance their needs with financial constraints. From my point of view, we’re all in this together. Teresa L.
