CTCA: A Focus on Patient-Centered Care
Design Nearly Complete for New Cancer Hospital in Georgia
Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) plans to expand the availability of its unique integrated treatment model to patients and their families throughout the Southeast with the construction of a new hospital in Newnan, Georgia. CTCA of the Southeast will join the company’s existing facilities in Zion, Illinois; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Goodyear, Arizona; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a 225,000-square-foot, all-digital facility that includes inpatient and outpatient care and on-site residential accommodations for outpatients and their families.
Dewberry has supported CTCA’s growth for more than eight years, and continues to meet with patients, families, medical professionals, and CTCA administrators to incorporate the latest design concepts in patient-centered care. The firm designed CTCA’s Tulsa and Goodyear hospitals, and is now designing the Newnan facility. Using a fully integrated design model, construction managers and major subcontractors have been preselected to assist during the design phase as the team moves toward breaking ground. The new hospital will offer 50 universal inpatient beds, surgical suites, radiation and infusion therapy departments, an outpatient clinic, rehabilitation and physical therapy, and a 60-room residential facility. Recognizing that many patients come from several hundred miles away, and enjoy a quality of life that supports activities outside of the hospital, CTCA chose a site surrounded by a number of community amenities, including shops and restaurants, as well as convenient access to Atlanta’s sports, arts, and entertainment venues. “The growth of CTCA answers the pleas from cancer patients across the country,” said Steve Bonner, president and CEO of CTCA. “Many of our patients travel hundreds of miles for care. Our goal is to provide easier access to the high-quality, individualized, comprehensive care for which CTCA is known. Today, cancer patients in the Southeast have to travel to one of our other centers, which many do. When we open in Newnan, CTCA will be much closer to home for all of them.” The new hospital in Georgia is among several projects currently underway for CTCA. Construction continues on the Dewberry-designed expansion and renovation of the medical oncology clinic at the Tulsa facility, and the firm recently completed a similar project for CTCA at Eastern Regional Medical Center in Philadelphia. Construction is also set to begin on an expansion and renovation of the intensive care unit/critical care unit at the Philadelphia hospital.
