A Firm Foundation for Healthcare
Danville Community College Boosts Education, Economy with New Foundation Hall
With the region surrounding the city of Danville, Virginia, facing both economic challenges as well as a shortage of healthcare professionals, a partnership of the Danville Regional Foundation and Danville Community College (DCC) recognized the opportunity to make a difference. The result—a new 26,740-square-foot health sciences building on the DCC campus—is now open and serving both students and local residents with a multi-faceted program that addresses health and wellness education and service to the community.
A Stronger Workforce
Known as Foundation Hall, the new building has an iconic presence on the campus. (See front cover.) The gateway location is well-suited to the facility’s community-oriented mission, which focuses on bridging the gap between the region’s citizens and access to healthcare and education. The building now serves as the region’s most prominent facility for health science education and training, with new college programs that include nursing, dental hygiene, radiology, respiratory therapy, and phlebotomy. Foundation Hall features a fully equipped dental clinic and a clinical skills lab with advanced patient simulators in intensive care, birthing, and pediatric care rooms. “Foundation Hall fortifies our partnership with the Danville Regional Medical Center in offering an educated workforce,” says Dr. Carlyle Ramsey, DCC president. “We are also using it to attract medical professionals. Even prior to the building’s completion, local physicians were touring the building with medical professional prospects.”
