Performance
Construction for the “Carlisle Road Diet,” a Complete Streets and traffic calming initiative along two main thoroughfares in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, has recently been completed. Dewberry performed the traffic study and designed improvements to reduce accidents, promote walking and biking, improve parking access, and enhance the community’s small-town aesthetic while promoting local business. The thoroughfares were converted from four lanes to three to create dedicated bike lanes while the traffic flow was enhanced with the first fullscale implementation of the InSync® Adaptive Signal System in Pennsylvania. The project recently won the Excellence in Utility Relocation and Accommodation Award in the Innovation Category from Federal Highway Administration. The Augusta Utilities Department (AUD) in Georgia has tasked Dewberry with assisting in the development of a new watershed protection program for the county. Coordinating with various governmental departments, Dewberry will develop written interjurisdictional agreements to outline procedures should a spill occur upstream of AUD’s intake. Dewberry will also perform public outreach activities including watershed
roundtable meetings with stakeholder organizations; development of a quarterly community newsletter; and educational activities at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Also included in the project is production of a written plan and educational activities for the Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) Program, which improves water quality by reducing the sanitary sewer overflows caused by these substances in the sewer collection system. The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, located in Bethesda, Maryland, has achieved LEED®Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. As part of the Base Realignment and Closure Act, the design-build project included expansion and renovation of the existing medical campus consisting of the main facility, nine smaller buildings, and two new parking structures. Originally sketched by Franklin D. Roosevelt and constructed in 1942, the updated design maintained the building’s historic integrity while upgrading patient facilities and improving vehicle access and parking. Dewberry provided site/civil, landscaping, utilities, stormwater management, and environmental engineering services.
