Security/technology systems have become much more sophisticated as the practice has evolved; yet current trends are shifting away from convergence. Lately, designers have become more focused on meeting useability requirements due to the complexities of network technology and the realization that this type of system requires a formally trained network engineer, a resource most integration contractors don’t have. This is especially true of network video systems. The technology changes so fast that knowledge becomes obsolete before it can be implemented; thus users are demanding more conservative designs. Like the populations these facilities serve and address, technology is being designed and customized to support the end-user’s needs. 2011 Dimensions® | Spring-Summer | 8
