Industrial Market Sector Leader
As the industrial market sector lead, I’m out talking to people every day
about how the industrial market is changing in this country. And from
the conversations I’ve had, it’s an exciting time to be working in this
sector for a number of reasons.
• Shale gas is a major game changer providing not only a financial
benefit to host communities and states but also a predictable
and economical fuel and feedstock supply to downstream
markets such as ag-chem, specialty materials, LNG export, power
generation, and automotive.
• Technology advancements continue as information technology
integrates with operational technology—we’re seeing automation
advancements, smart grid improvements, and cloud data
management; and with recent joint ventures like Bentley
and Siemens, it’s likely that facility and asset management
investment will continue for some time.
• Utility companies are investing in infrastructure improvements
to keep up with the growing demand for electric transmission,
power generation, communication, water supply, and data needs.
• Certain industrial segments continue to consolidate for
market share but there is a good indication of re-shoring and
re-industrialization trends in U.S. geographies.
It’s also an exciting time to be at Dewberry. We’ve made significant
investments in subject matter experts, technology, and experienced
resources. For instance, in cities around the country, our telecom
group is helping clients expand connectivity by designing distributed
antennae systems, 3-D models, and 4G LTE upgrades.
Other utility industry clients are seeing significant revenue and
business impacts related to regulatory compliance, infrastructure
upgrades and replacement, and water resource management. In
support, we’ve developed route studies, LiDAR specifications, linear
construction support (shale gas and electric transmission), surveying,
LiDAR QA/QC, H&H modeling, design-build water intake structures,
regulatory compliance, substations, and PLS CAD/LiDAR Interface.
And this is just scratching the surface—like I said this is a very
exciting time here at Dewberry and I’m proud to be a part of it.
