A New Hope for
Transport Aviation
2018 ISTAT Foundation Scholarship
recipient Davidson Nzekwe-Daniel works
to ensure the sustainability of workforce
development.

D

avidson Nzekwe-Daniel, a Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) certificated
airframe technician as well as a
powerplant student technician at the
Broward College Aviation Institute, is
taking a pioneering role in ensuring the
sustainability of workforce development
in the transport aviation industry. With a shortage of FAA
certificated mechanics juxtaposed with the prospect of a
massive expansion of transport aviation in the near future,
Nzekwe-Daniel believes that a feasible and effective way
of replenishing the diminishing workforce is to increase the
contribution of part 147 schools to the workforce (Boeing Pilot
and Technician Outlook 2018).
In October 2018,
Nzekwe-Daniel embarked
on a research project
to address the issue of
FAA PMA kits available
mechanic shortage, and
he learned right off the
bat that the soaring failure
rate in the FAA mechanics
oral and practical exam
is a cause for concern.
He quickly implemented a
rescue strategy called curriculum practical training (CPT). CPT
is a refresher course that reinforces the skills that students
require to pass the FAA practical exam. He ran the workshop
for the first time in December 2018, and the two participating
students ended up obtaining the airmen certificates
afterwards. He ran the workshop again this summer (24 May
through 8 June) at Broward College; it accommodated 25
students who said they found it very instrumental in achieving
their goals.
Nzekwe-Daniel is working to address the technical
deficiencies in the industry and to ensure a sustainable
growth in the workforce. He is soliciting sponsorship/
partnership with individuals and organizations that have a
shared vision of a robust transport aviation industry.
