Remembering Bob Agnew

ob Agnew, an aviation industry icon and ISTAT member
since 1999, made his final approach for landing on 19
August 2019. He died with his family surrounding him
in a manner not unlike the way he did most everything
in his life: with quiet grace and dignity.
Bob's career spanned 40 years in the field
of aviation. Following his early days in the USAF
Strategic Air Command as an officer and instructor navigator, he started
his commercial career at Northwest Airlines. For many years, he was
president and CEO of Morten Beyer & Agnew, which he co-founded. He
most recently served as chairman of mba. Bob was a member of the Board
of Directors of Atlas Air Worldwide and served as its chairman since 2017.
Bob continued his connection with the U.S. Air Force until recently as a
member and a former chairman of the Military Airlift Committee for the
Commander of the USAF Air Mobility Command.
Bob was a long-standing member of ISTAT, a former trustee of
the ISTAT Foundation, and a regular attendee and admired speaker at
ISTAT's conferences and events around the world. Bob was also an ISTAT
Senior Appraiser and active and deeply respected in the community of
ISTAT Appraisers. Gerry Butler, president of ISTAT, commented: "Bob
was an aviation industry legend and a friend to so many of us in the
industry. He will be missed by all of us on the ISTAT Board and the
entire ISTAT membership who knew him." Jep Thornton, chairman of the
ISTAT Foundation, added: "Bob was a good friend and a thoughtful and
invaluable trustee of the ISTAT Foundation. He will be deeply missed by all
the trustees with whom he served and the ISTAT community as a whole."
Douglas Runte, ISTAT immediate past president, ISTAT director and
ISTAT Foundation trustee, remarked: "I had the pleasure and privilege of
knowing Bob for 20 years. He was a dear friend, a trusted adviser and a
complete gentleman in every sense of the word. The aviation industry has
lost a true leader, but we will always cherish our memories of Bob's good
humor, keen insights and always courtly, dapper and, of course, bow-tied
presence in our lives."
