ISTAT Foundation is keen to address in
conjunction with the universities.
Conclusion
In the last five years, the ISTAT
Foundation has assisted over 350
students from more than 55 countries
in deepening their knowledge of
the aviation business. Although the
beneficiaries are somewhat clustered
regionally, the different ISTAT
Foundation programs support students
irrespective of gender or national
origin from all over the world enrolled
at world-leading aviation education
institutions, including the in-house
ISTAT Foundation programs remain underrepresented in some parts of the world,
and the ISTAT Foundation is working hard to be more balanced over the coming years
with the aid and collaboration of volunteers and, most importantly, in conjunction with
universities all over the world.
Scholarship
Recipients Reflect a
Worldwide Reach
The ISTAT Foundation's scholarship
initiatives have continuously supported
talented students in their efforts to fulfil
their dreams to study at the world's
best aviation universities. Universities
with a distinct focus on the aviation
industry are still rare in many countries,
however, requiring students wishing to
follow such a specialized path to study
abroad. For example, a third of our
U.S.-based scholarship recipients come
from elsewhere, and in Ireland and
the United Kingdom, it is almost every
second recipient. In Australia, France,
Morocco and the Netherlands, all of
our scholarship recipients are from

abroad. Overall, the ISTAT Foundation
has been successful in increasing
the international representation
of scholarship recipients from 17
countries in 2017 to 22 in 2021, an
exciting trend.
Gender Diversity
is Improving
Aviation programs at universities
throughout the world have not
succeeded in attracting a similar number
of female and male students, which is
also reflected in the number of female
applicants. As a result, the proportion
of female scholarship recipients, while
consistent with the percentage of
female to male applicants, was just
over one-third from 2017-2021. One of
the main problems has been that fewer
developed ISTAT U Program. However,
the programs remain underrepresented
in some parts of the world, and the
ISTAT Foundation is working hard to
be more balanced over the coming
years with the aid and collaboration
of volunteers and, most importantly,
in conjunction with universities all
over the world. This is not only done
by enhancing the relationship with
universities that are already part of
the ISTAT Foundation Scholarship
Program, but also by onboarding new
ones. Moreover, this does not only
apply to emerging economies but also
to developed economies, and it is of
utmost importance to increasingly
source talented students independent
of race, gender and other attributes to
overcome the challenges the aviation
industry faces going forward.
