ISTAT Jetrader - Autumn 2022 - 20

first display area that included military
training aircraft such as the Leonardo
M-345/346 and helicopters such as the
Bell 429, Bell 505, AW149, AW159 and
the S-70 Black Hawk. Next to these, a
group of larger military aircraft were
displayed, including a Lockheed Martin
USAF F-35A Lightning II; a General
Dynamics USAF F-16C Fighting Falcon;
a USAF McDonnel-Douglas F-15E Strike
Eagle; and Boeing's CH-47 Chinook,
AH-64E Apache and P-8A Poseidon.
A short stroll brought the Airbus
static aircraft display into view.
Dominating this section was the
A350-900 in the eye-catching metallic
blue colors of ITA Airways. Alongside
it was the popular A220-300 in Air
Baltic livery, which was flanked on
the other side by the C295 tactical
transporter. Airbus also had its popular
H135 helicopter on display, as well
as a mock-up of the larger H145M
light twin.
Not to be outdone, Boeing also
made its mark at the show with its
commercial aircraft. The new Boeing

777-9, complete with commentprovoking
folding wing tips, was
definitely one of the stars of the static
display, while the Boeing 737 MAX
10, with its specially adapted main
landing gear, was another attraction for
admirers of big commercial jets.
Embraer had two examples of its E2
family of jets at the show with both the
E190-E2 Tech Shark and the E195-E2
Tech Lion available for visitors to view.
The regional airliner quota at the show
was completed by the ATR 72-600;
although, technically speaking, we
shouldn't forget the presence of the
Deutsche Aircraft Do328eco, the Saab
SF340 flying laboratory or the DHC-6400
Twin Otter.
With the Gulfstream hangar being
very visible in many pictures taken at
Farnborough over the years, it would
be remiss of me not to mention the
impressive array of business jets
displayed at FIA2022, which included
the Gulfstream G500, G600, G650ER
and G800. Dassault displayed a Falcon
6X mock-up and a Falcon 8X. Finally,
at the far end of the static display area,
Qatar Airways displayed its own Boeing
787-9 Dreamliner and Boeing 777300ER
to complete the static display
areas at the show.
There were many other notable
aircraft on display, including the
Embraer C-390 Millennium military
transport, the Super Tucano, the TAI
Turkish fighter mock-ups of the Hurkus
and Hurjet, the beautiful Piaggio P.180
Avanti EVO, the C-130 Hercules and
the Airbus A400M. If the aircraft type
you wanted to see in print still hasn't
been mentioned, I can only apologize
and blame the practical limitations
of a written article to convey such a
broad experience as the Farnborough
International Airshow. From marvelling
at the wing tips of the 777-9, to
discussing the operational adaptability
of the F-15E with a USAF airman based
at Lakenheath, the static displays
never fail to be less than a thoroughly
enjoyable way to spend time adding
to one's knowledge of the fascinating
world of aviation.
