solid, future-proof, blue-collar jobs.
Many large economies already provide
large subsidies to support jobs in
rural areas. Could the same farmers
currently being subsidized to produce
climate unfriendly beef be subsidized
for the cultivation and collection of
SAF feedstocks?

to let the free market work its magic. The story of China dramatically driving down the
cost of photovoltaic solar panels shows what can be possible when a technology is
given genuine coordinated support by a government.
SAF fuel is good for aviation, which is good for economic growth, which is
needed to pay for the transition to a net-zero emission economy. The production
of SAF is a domestic source of energy, which should improve the balance of trade
and increase energy independence of most countries. SAF production plants using
organic feedstocks are built primarily in rural areas to reduce the logistics cost of
stakeholders. Beyond airlines are the
OEMs, airports and financial partners,
as well as the regional and national
governments that depend on air travel
to bring the tourists who provide
employment and tax revenue. Having all
these stakeholders pulling in the same
direction for the future of aviation could
be a powerful force for getting SAF
the support it needs to make aviation
carbon neutral.
