inspection visit, helpful tips were shared, such as taking
pictures of an individual aircraft's registration mark at the
start and close of each aircraft's physical inspection to aid
in attributing photos correctly.
The session then moved to a review of common
documents available to appraisers as part of an inspection.
Attendees were given an early lesson in some of the
difficulties that may arise when reviewing records during
an inspection (e.g., out of the 80 boxes of information
available to the group, several important documents were
unable to be located, such as the most recent dent-andbuckle
chart). Pressing on, the group reviewed relevant
documents such as " dirty fingerprint " records from recent
shop visits and airframe heavy maintenance events.

Candidates are typically very familiar with records such
as maintenance reports, LLP disc sheets and borescope
reports, Rushe pointed out the importance of the less
familiar interior and seat burn certifications, which should

be reviewed as part of an inspection of the condition of an
aircraft interior.

wonderful view of general aviation activity at the airport with
the backdrop of stored commercial aircraft, the group returned
to the GCAM facility for the inspection walk-through.
The GCAM team were incredibly helpful throughout the day.
In particular, during lunch they had towed the aircraft out of
the hangar for the external inspection, hooked it up to power
and moved airstairs into position. Starting at the nose of the
aircraft and working counterclockwise, the group ascertained
the condition of the aircraft's exterior in detail with common
issues such as ramp rash, fuselage skin repairs and patches,
and corrosion of rivets and other surfaces identified. The
landing gear, brakes, tires and wing areas were also inspected,
with Rushe pointing out areas of concern on this particular
aircraft and areas of common concern for future inspections.
The group then moved into the interior of the aircraft and
started with the cockpit inspection. The log books had been
