FROM THE PRESIDENT
An Eventful Year Ahead
I
hope you are all doing well and
keeping safe in this new year.
Since my last note to you,
ISTAT successfully hosted ISTAT
Americas in Austin in November
2021. Over 1,500 attendees
participated at the event, which
was, at the time, a seemingly proper
bookend to the pandemic. You may
recall that Austin was also host to
ISTAT Americas in February 2020 in
which over 2,000 attendees joined in
making the event the largest gathering
in ISTAT's history. The pandemic
took off shortly after that, and for the
balance of 2020 and much of 2021,
our industry was effectively grounded,
so it was fitting to be back in Austin
with such a large crowd closing the
symbolic loop.
In addition to our normal panel
sessions, ISTAT Americas included a
variety of unique sessions, such as
an airline restructuring roundtable,
One of the highlights of last year, announced at
ISTAT Americas, was the election of my successor as
board president, Mary Prettyman.
a rising executive speed networking
event and the largest ISTAT Women's
Networking Reception to date. During
the conference itself, our panels
focused on the continued impact of
the pandemic and our shared optimism
that there was light at the end of the
tunnel. There was also considerable

focus on environmental issues facing
the aviation industry and the various
approaches our member companies
are adopting to address these issues.
The conference culminated with the
President's Gala Dinner in which Abdol
Moabery, chief executive officer of GA
Telesis, was presented with the ISTAT
Award. The ISTAT Award recognizes
individuals who have made lasting
contributions to the aviation industry
over a significant period of time,
and Abdol, through his career at GA
Telesis, coupled with his considerable
philanthropic endeavors, was most
deserving of this honor.
The year culminated with ISTAThosted
holiday receptions in Tokyo,
London and New York. These
gatherings were very well attended
and showcased the desire of our
members to meet and greet one
another during the most festive time of
year. While local COVID-19 restrictions
continued to limit attendance, it
was great to see each party was
near capacity.
Of course, the omicron variant
took us by surprise and further set us
back in terms of in-person gatherings
(including our events scheduled for
Dublin in January 2022, which, sadly,
had to be canceled), but we remain
hopeful to be back in our rhythm come
March 2022 with ISTAT Americas in
San Diego. Following the Americas
conference, ISTAT is poised to host
our reception and hub in London in
connection with the Farnborough
Airshow, ISTAT EMEA in Marrakech
and our Asia conference in Singapore.
We are also planning to host our
ISTAT Jetrader - Spring 2022
