reinventing itself while fighting on the
COVID-19 front line. Our way of doing
business has been reshaped, but our
business model continues to evolve.
Jun Li: Since the pandemic, the
biggest challenge has been the
uncertainty, including the delivery of
aircraft, the performance of airlines
and the cost of funds.
What more would you like
ISTAT members to know about
your company?
Shuhua Fang: I am glad to share more
information about our company. CMBFL
is wholly owned by China Merchants
Bank (CMB), which is a leading
commercial bank, ranked 162nd in the
2021 Fortune Global 500. Measured
by market cap, it stands among the top
five banks globally, at approximately
US$200 billion. Upholding the service
concept of " We Are Here Just for
You, " CMB has grown into one of the

China's most famous brands. CMB
envisions wealth management to be
the key driver of its business, and
asset management by CMBFL aligns
with this. The original aspiration of
CMBFL was to create value together
with our customers and partners. Our
business covers aviation, shipping,
energy, infrastructure and equipment
leasing. Headquartered in Shanghai
with overseas offices in Dublin and
Hong Kong, we aim to become a toptier
lessor and have great interest in
expanding our aircraft portfolio globally.
Our footprint has grown steadily
across the world. We have provided
leasing solutions to KLM, Lufthansa
and Air France during the pandemic.
We are willing to engage in more
made-to-measure services with other
leading airlines.
Jun Li: We are an aviation leasing
company with an aircraft manufacturing
shareholder background. We have
always focused on serving our
shareholder AVIC group in terms
of supporting the leasing of our
domestically manufactured aircraft. We
have a strong market share in China
and have been expanding overseas to
achieve our professional, international
and differentiation corporate strategy.
How will you measure the success
of your business - asset size,
aggregate benefits to your parent
company, or other metrics?
Shuhua Fang: We do have quantitative
measurements, as everyone else does,
such as value of total assets, fleet size,
total revenue and net margin. We care
about unit profit and cost, maintenance
rates and the quality of our assets,
rent collection rates, aircraft utilization,
return on equity and so on. But the
first and foremost criterion for us is
to bring value to our clients and grow
with them; our success is measured
